Because Art Matters

Finished, Just in the Nick of Time!
In my last blog post, I talked about the watercolor painting I was trying to complete to enter into a juried exhibition and I showed the work in progress. I worked feverishly to complete this in time to make the 11:59 p.m. PST deadline yesterday. I felt like it had a million trees! I finished the painting at 11:40 last night and entered the show with it and two other pieces immediately thereafter. Made it! But this American Women Artists exhibition at the Booth Museum is only accepting top-notch work and I don't feel as though this one qualifies. But nothing ventured, nothing gained!
Some people paint loosely in watercolor, or perhaps I should say with a less-detailed quality, and yet they can achieve very realistic paintings. I don't seem able to do that, and I work (some would say overwork) building up layers of paint and include many details. It's in my genes! I am not able to work less anal-ly except on location or, in oil, when I paint with palette knives. And even then, I strive for realism. So there was no broad-brushing all these trees for me!
After a several year hiatus, I am very happy to be back to painting again. And happy to be blogging again! And teaching again! I will be sending out information about the teaching in the near future.
Happy painting!
Pat
